content overload

Way too much to read, listen, see, do, eat, drink, watch, write, and make. I want to do it all and every day I just find out about more stuff!

I will be honest that TV has taken a bit of a backseat lately. We don’t have any shows going right now. Although we did start Boardwalk Empire. Egads, that thing is about MEN being MEN and being POWERFUL. Which I’m not so sure I need to see another show like that, but it’s very well done so….

I’ve been reading at night instead of watching stuff and am trying to read during my lunch at work as well. It’s going okay! Here’s a master list of the things I’m trying to consume this week…maybe just this afternoon!?

An hour long video interview with Ashtangi Laruga Glaser. She is amazing. I can’t wait to watch this.

I’m currently reading two incredible page turners.  I was making fabulous prgress on the second book in the Elena Ferrante trilogy when I listened to this episode of Books on the Nightstand. I am now obsessively reading The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I’m not sure how great a book it is (quality wise), but it’s definitely entertaining…the Gone Girl of 2015 for sure.

My podcast feed is out of control. Trying to listen through it all, but getting bogged down. Especially with the slew of new albums being released right now too!

Oh, and let us not forget, the internet. There is my Feedly list of blogs, which is downright gigantic. The flood of daily news (thank god for NYT Now), op-eds, long reads, twitterings, and vlogs. Yep, I said vlogs. Perhaps my secret obsession with YouTube channels should be saved for another post entirely…

And on top of it all, today is Thursday and Thursday is when the GOOP newsletter arrives in my inbox, ready and waiting for ridicule!

It’s all too much…but in a good way I’m pretty sure.

let’s december

Ah. It’s Monday. Thanksgiving is over. Got to see lots of family, friends, little nieces and nephews, cocktails, great food, and a lot of candy cane Joe-Joes.

For the past two months I’ve been doing blogging challenges, posting every single day. Part of me isn’t sure how to go about things without making time for the blogging. December is going to be free form on here…especially since I pulled the plug on my 52 poses early.

Found a couple fun things going on around the internet this morning. Katie Levans has got 25 Days of Yoga for us on Honeystuck, Slate’s kicking us off with the Best of Year lists, and Danielle at Lou What Wear breaks down Cyber Monday.

Let’s do it!

life is better with…James Beck and Kevin Burg

Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg are at it again with their beautiful cinemagraphs. I will always love these subtle, moving photographs. They are one of my favorite things from the internet ever. It’s like I’m reading a newspaper out of Harry Potter!

See more here. Thanks to Kayla for giving me the heads up with this one!

So good.

More GIFs from Adam Kissick…seriously, I love these! Also, couldn’t help but post when I saw where they were all taken…Asheville of course! Asheville, you are always getting more and more hip by the day…these are from the first ever Mountain Oasis Music Festival.

There are also more on the NPR website…including some from the 2013 Newport Jazz festival

Please keep this up Mr. Kissick—they make me so happy!

My internet…blogs I’ve been reading for awhile

2013-03-24_1364143985

I’ve been reading blogs for quite some time. Way, way back before I started one. I have a few that I’ve been reading since the beginning, but I also continue to find many new ones that I’ll read for awhile then forget about and then go back and find again, etc, etc.

Here are those I’ve been reading for awhile:

Ree Drummond: The Pioneer Woman
Duh…she’s perfect in every way…those bassets, that ranch, her love of movie quizzes!

Gabrielle Blair: Design Mom
The name of this blog is deceiving. Yes, she’s a mother to six children and writes about that frequently, but she also has wonderful suggestions for websites, books, clothes, shopping…basically sharing beautiful stuff. I particularly enjoyed this blog while they were living in a country house in rural France (!). They’ve recently moved back to the states. Will be interesting to see where it goes…

NPR Monkeysee
Linda Holmes and company write this pop culture blog space for NPR. Always a wonderful source of content that is well-written and well considered.

Tracy Benjamin: Shutterbean
Great recipes from cookbooks, original, or derived from other bloggers. They ALWAYS turn out great.

Joy Wilson: Joy the Baker
I’m challenged in the baking department so I love living vicariously through Joy. She also shares a lot of the same sensibilities that I do…refreshing to read a beautifully styled blog that is baby free…sorry…just being honest.

This is Colossal
Mind blowing art shared daily. My favorite place to look at amazing stuff.

There are two blogs that I’ve been reading forever….BUT they come with a caveat. Do you ever feel like you’ve been taken hostage by something? That’s how I feel about Rockstar Diaries or lovetaza.com as it’s now called and Bleubird Vintage. I’ve never seen more beautiful people take more beautiful photos of their beautiful homes and beautiful babies. I love their writing because I find myself reading it. However, I’ve noticed that lately there are a LOT of sponsored posts here and not a ton of other content. I understand that people are trying to make a living with their blog…but suggesting that I buy a $60 candle in order to have a proper “date night in” with my husband? NO. Or just casually ignoring the fact that in order to have this most beautiful life, an investment banker husband might help? I’m not annoyed with them for the life they have, I’m annoyed because of their lack of honesty and self-awareness. Look at Pioneer Woman! She has a pretty insane life, that is completely different from mine, but manages to come across as 100% down-to-earth. Sorry, I apologize, rant over….I just often find myself frustrated for the lack of reality in these blogs, but I can’t really say anything because I. keep. dang. on. reading. them…I need. to. stop. So, long story short, if you want to see beautiful people taking beautifully over-saturated photos of beautiful places, products, and babies…these blogs are for you.

My internet…part I

ahhh the internet. Every morning I get up about an hour and half before I have to be at work. I don’t shower in the morning (I have a weird, OCD like obession with having to shower RIGHT before I get in bed at night…), I don’t wear makeup, I don’t have to walk the dogs, I barely have to do anything…but I still need at least an hour. Why? To browse the internets in peace with coffee.

After checking email and social media outlets Twitter, Instagram, Facebook (blech!), etc. I make the some rounds:

Google News
Slate...although, since their redesign, I’m not so sure…I’ve never seen a website that is this unpleasant looking…horrible
Daily Beast
NPR
Vulture
Entertainment Weekly

Of course, after checking twitter and the like, I find myself in various random corners of the internet and ultimately, laughing to myself while looking at Buzzfeed lists.

I’ll be back soon with part II, focusing on my favorite blogs.
