content overload

Way too much to read, listen, see, do, eat, drink, watch, write, and make. I want to do it all and every day I just find out about more stuff!

I will be honest that TV has taken a bit of a backseat lately. We don’t have any shows going right now. Although we did start Boardwalk Empire. Egads, that thing is about MEN being MEN and being POWERFUL. Which I’m not so sure I need to see another show like that, but it’s very well done so….

I’ve been reading at night instead of watching stuff and am trying to read during my lunch at work as well. It’s going okay! Here’s a master list of the things I’m trying to consume this week…maybe just this afternoon!?

An hour long video interview with Ashtangi Laruga Glaser. She is amazing. I can’t wait to watch this.

I’m currently reading two incredible page turners.  I was making fabulous prgress on the second book in the Elena Ferrante trilogy when I listened to this episode of Books on the Nightstand. I am now obsessively reading The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I’m not sure how great a book it is (quality wise), but it’s definitely entertaining…the Gone Girl of 2015 for sure.

My podcast feed is out of control. Trying to listen through it all, but getting bogged down. Especially with the slew of new albums being released right now too!

Oh, and let us not forget, the internet. There is my Feedly list of blogs, which is downright gigantic. The flood of daily news (thank god for NYT Now), op-eds, long reads, twitterings, and vlogs. Yep, I said vlogs. Perhaps my secret obsession with YouTube channels should be saved for another post entirely…

And on top of it all, today is Thursday and Thursday is when the GOOP newsletter arrives in my inbox, ready and waiting for ridicule!

It’s all too much…but in a good way I’m pretty sure.

readathon

NationalReadathonDayThumb2

This is so good.

Penguin Random House along with GoodReads, Mashable, and the National Book Foundation has declared January 24th National Readathon Day. From noon until 4:00pm this Saturday I’ll be playing along by plopping down with lots of yummy food and beverages, not moving–settling in to READ something.

My Mom is hosting and it should be funny to see if we can keep from yapping the whole time. Many coffeeshops, libraries, community centers, and even bars are hosting silent, group reading this Saturday.

Click here for a list of participating venues throughout the country.

I found out about this from one of my favorite podcasts, Books on the Nightstand. I’m a little overloaded with great podcasts right now…I plan to share a list of what I’m loving tomorrow.

chapter books

Chapter books. Y’all know that I really enjoy my day job as an elementary school librarian. However, I am a huge picture book fanatic. I’m not as keen on chapter books….I love them of course, but if I had my druthers, we’d be picture booking it all year long.

I especially enjoy working at school after the holidays. I find that after we get through the onslaught of Halloween through New Year’s, the kids and staff come back ready to settle into a routine.

Thus, I always start chapter books with classes in January. Now, inevitably we’ll get messed up with snow days, but so far, so good.

Earlier this week I was trying to decide what to read with second grade. I always read a different book to each grade, but  this year I’m reading different books with different classes. I find that each and every class has a personality of its own and I have tried to select books that are tailored to the individual classes.

Here’s a quick look at some of the books we’re reading right now. I’m still working on picking the others. Any ideas out there?

Happy reading!

staying warm

Wow, has it been cold.

Word on the street is that we’re in for some “wintry mix” tonight.

This week I’ve been keeping warm and ignoring the cold by wearing extra soft, extra long warm crazy socks.

Like everyone else, continuously dancing to this song…maybe in the shower.

Margaritas at El Mundo. Last night Andrew ordered the prickly pear and it was so good!

Thinking about this hot chocolate from my name is yeh

Reading. I’m on a roll. Currently reading these two:

Screenshot 2015-01-11 07.30.29We watched the documentary, Art and Craft. I kind of cried through the second half.

Loving my new Sorel boots. I have been wanting Sorels for ages and my head about popped off when I found them discounted by 60% at Anthropologie…they had one pair left…which was my size. I had to.

I really should end this post because I’m working on it instead of meal planning/grocery listing for the week. So far, so good on that one..we’ll see how week two goes.

Stay warm!

little free library

It’s up and running! The first Little Free Library in Corydon!

We still have to put up the official charter sign and install the solar light (it will be lit up at night! Yeeeeeeeeeeeee), but it’s up and functioning. I’m headed to the used bookstore after work today to stock up.

If you’re a local reader and don’t know where I live, email me at yepindeedblog@gmail.com and I’ll let you know where it is!

Here’s how it works:
  • I’ll stock the LFL with a variety of books that I hope will interest our neighbors
  • You stop by and take whatever you like!
  • You return the book and/or bring other books to contribute when you can
  • LFL books are always a gift – never for sale!

If you’d like to learn more about Little Free Library, visit their website at www.littlefreelibrary.org.

52…eh, nope…45 books in 2014

IMGP0137

Yeah….so I didn’t make it….wahhhhhhhh.

I mean, I guess I could read seven books in the next nine days…yeah right!

I’m totally proud of myself for getting to 45–I read a lot of great stuff this year and also some of these were total duds. If any look good to you, just click the image and it will take you to the Amazon listing!

I somehow missed photos of three of them–the list that I keep on Word says 45 and I see a couple of titles I missed on here. Oh well…can’t do it all.

Happy reading!

Right?!?

Up early with coffee this morning, trying to get my plans for the weekend and holiday break sorted. I’ve got a rather large stack of books from the library and am feeling inspired to paint, so yeah let’s just stay home.

I’ve started a Pinterest board for books I’m hoping to read. Check it out here.
