a norwegian tunnel video

2015-01-02 12.31.21

Insert right here: a super-happy-that-it’s-Friday line.

What a whirlwind of a week! I’m so thrilled we’ve seen so many new students at the studio, but it makes for busy days. I’ve been making peppermint towels around the clock and it is amazing. I’m still reading the second Elena Ferrante novel, The Story of a New Name. For those of you out there who’ve read it, DID YOU EVER FINISH!? I love it, but every single night this week I’ve sat in the tub reading away and I still have a over 100 pages left…

I also found a random video on the computer from a time we drove through a super long, super creepy tunnel in Norway and thought I would share…this video could be a lot longer…that tunnel was LONG. Not sure we’ll ever get over Paul Simon’s The Sound of Silence coming up on the iPod at that moment. Shuffle is psychic sometimes.

Yes, I know the blog looks different again. I wasn’t 100% happy with the last look, so I think this is it. Thanks for your patience.

Back to work this morning. Let’s do it!

This song will indeed brighten your Monday…I can’t stop with it…Walk the Moon is so 80s and I love them for it.

Ahhhh Norway. This timelapse of daily life in Scandinavia from Damp Design is so good. Andrew emailed it to me the other day.

Have you ever been somewhere and seen something that is impossible to capture on film?

I’m assuming the answer is yes.

Lately I’ve been feeling a little nostalgic for the days of living abroad.

Probably because I know now that we will not be moving…ever again probably? GULP.

I’m starting to forget things about Asheville, Norway, Edinburgh, and Austin. The little things, places, foods, bus tokens, etc. Makes me sad is an understatement.

While I love Pinterest for finding new recipes or style inspiration, my favorite use for it is to create curated boards that mean something special to me.

For a little while, I’ve been sporadically pinning to a secret board called “places that shape me.”

I don’t want to forget where I’ve lived.

So I began pinning images that make me remember. Most of them are places I would frequent often, things that stood out, my actual apartment/house, or general landscapes. This pin board is still a work in progress…I’m always trying to pin little things as I remember them. If you’re looking for a new and fun way to journal/scrapbook, I suggest giving it a whirl…it’s a really fun experience! I have loved finding old haunts via Google image searches. We live in a truly crazy world. I’m grateful.

I’ve recently made that board public, feel free to take a look.

thankful thursday: poses 41/52

IMG_20141010_212307

I’m thankful for Tiffany Cruikshank + Yogaglo for getting me into this crazy pose. A variation of Grasshopper. There are many interpretations of this pose…baby Grasshopper, full Grasshopper, or the odd variation above.

This class on Yogaglo and this class will get you there. If you’re not on Yogaglo and you’d like to try this pose, I suggest the following articles and tutorials. It is a massive twist and insane hip opener, but also requires a decent amount of strength. That troubling and puzzling thing in yoga when a pose becomes doubly hard because it takes a ton of flexibility AND strength. Also, it’s one of those really rare poses that is actually much harder to get into than be in.

Baby Grasshopper

I’m thankful for the internet and its resources! Without it, crazy poses like this would not be possible!

fall 2014 soundtrack

I don’t mean to join the chorus and go on and on about how much I love fall, but sorry, it just kind of happens. It’s happening! And along with boot & scarf weather, football, PSLs, and candles, there is also always a ton of great new music released in the fall. I’ve bee obsessed with the following five songs.

You can find my current seasonal playlist here on Spotify.

Let’s be honest though, I’ll just be listening to Alt-J’s new album on repeat when it comes out in a week.

Four Walls // Broods

Georgia // Vance Joy

Promises // Ryn Weaver

Every Other Freckle // Alt-J

 Carolina // Kimbra

Illustration above is from Morgan Davidson in Florida. So great! Her instagram is amazing as well.

Bird of paradise! I saw the above photo for the first time way back when Pinterest first got going. It’s been making the rounds ever since. It’s amazing. So amazing I had to get out my paint and turn it into a little project last year

Bird of paradise is one of those poses that looks insane, but is actually somewhat accessible…it just may never look like that. HA!

This photo was taken June 2013…haven’t snapped a recent one of my BOP in awhile, curious to see my progress. I try to practice it almost every day. But then again, I love to balance on one leg and most don’t so, you know. Do what you want!

Again, Ekhart Yoga comes through with a free 10 minute sequence to get you there.

I also discovered Stacey Welu and her YouTube series, Asana Diagnostics. AMAZING tricks and tips!
